Volunteer Opportunities


Thank you for wanting to volunteer at the Brighton and Hove City Mission.

As an evangelical Christian organisation, we have a  occupational requirement that all volunteers are central to the fulfilment of our statutory objectives as a City Mission, and are therefore required to demonstrate a clear commitment to the Christian faith.

The choice of what area you wish to volunteer in, and how much time you would like to give is yours.

We currently have the following opportunities –

Head Office Volunteer

Responsibilities include – Working alongside our Office Manager in keeping our database up to date, helping with our monthly mail-outs and various other administrative tasks. If you have giftings in administration and have a few hours spare a week we would love to hear from you.

Brighton Food Bank Volunteer

Responsibilities include – Help with one-to-one pastoral care,  putting together and handing out food parcels, whilst  also occasionally talking through difficult situations with the clients. You will be part of a large team of staff and volunteers, and this position is very rewarding in helping people through crisis situations. We would be looking for someone who can commit to one day a week.

Brighton Food Bank Driver

Responsibilities include – Picking up and dropping off food from various churches, community groups, and businesses. We are so thankful for various supermarkets and organisations collecting food for us regularly. This role would be fairly flexible, but would be within normal office hours when driving round and collecting various donations. The role also includes a fair amount of lifting.

Care Homes Volunteer

Responsibilities include – Help run a service in one of the many rest homes across the city, this could involve assisting run a service, or even lead one yourself. You will always be part of a team of two or three staff members or volunteers. This role can be as little as a few hours a month, or more if you wish.

Care Homes One To One Volunteer

Responsibilities include – As a response to rest home managers and individual residents, we are at the early stages of developing pastoral one-to-one visitation. You will be part of a team that visit residents and will offer a befriending service. This role can be as little as a few hours a month, or more if you wish.

Mail Sort Volunteer

Responsibilities include – Be part of a team that package our newsletter that goes out to our supporters. This role would be for one morning, four times a year. We would be so thankful to those who wish to join in serving in this vital administrative role.

Schools Team Assembly Volunteer

Responsibilities include – Join our team for one of our assembly tours. The team currently perform over 20 assemblies a term. They write and perform fresh assemblies every term, and you could be involved with as little or as much as you like from the developmental ideas to performing.

Schools Team Prayer Space Volunteer

Responsibilities include – Assist our team running prayer/reflection spaces in schools across Brighton and Hove. This role could involve taking groups around the prayer/reflection space, or help prepare the craft and/or set up the space.
