Travelling Communities Support The Food Bank In Viral Campaign

Lloyd

Over the month ASDA, Hollingbury, has seen members of a local travelling community participating in a viral campaign called the Food Bank Challenge. The members of the community are purchasing a trolley full of food and donating the whole lot to local food banks. Those who have purchased the food, then, in turn, nominate another family to do the same. ASDA, Hollingbury, has become one of the stores chosen as they are well known for their campaign Fight Hunger, Create Change.

Over the last 2 years ASDA, Hollingbury, have been supporting Brighton Food Bank, which is run by Brighton and Hove City Mission. The store has a collection bin all year round. During the month of December, they are collecting financial donations in collection buckets on every till. Maria Carpenter, the Community Champion of the store, also volunteers at Brighton Food Bank on a weekly basis.

So far the store has seen 8 trolleys full of food donated through this viral campaign, all of which will be donated to Brighton Food Bank to be given to those in times of crisis.

Mike, our Brighton Food Bank Team Leader, says:

The travelling community often get a very negative press but this act shows that they have a massive heart and are aware of the really difficult situations that our clients face. Through this donation they have taken a massive step to make a real difference to those people who are in need in Brighton and Hove. We would like to place on record our sincere thanks.

Brighton Food Bank and ASDA, Hollingbury, would like to express their immense gratitude to everyone that has given so generously in this campaign, and to those who have given over the last few years. Brighton Food Bank relies on the donations of individuals, without this they wouldn’t survive. They are so grateful for the extremely generous Christmas donations.
